Shop / Guided Trip Update: 

We have Wade and Float trips going out the door with some great success call the shop to get on the water with one of our skilled and seasoned fishing guides.

We are officially a St. Croix Fly Rod dealer come by the shop to check out the new rods we are offering to the Gunnison Valley

We're getting new stuff and new brands in all the time. Flies are stocked, the tying material selection is growing, and we officially have St Croix Fly Rods and Fulling Mill flies.

Taylor River: 202.66 CFS

Lower Taylor: Fish are finally started to spread out from the deeper holes and are in there summer feeding lanes eating Mayflies, Stoneflies, and Caddis.

Catch and Release Section: Long Light light leaders and a gentle precise presentation are key.

Flies: 16-18 Pheasant Tails, Frenchie, Psycho May / 18-22 emerger patterns, RS2, Mayhem Midge

Gunnison River: 700 CFS

Water level and clarity is great for Float and Wade fishing call the shop or come in with any questions about which stretch to float/wade. 

Flies: 6-10 Pats Rubber Leg, 10-14 large hares ear and prince nymph patterns / 12-18 Walts Worm, soft hackle pheasant tails, soft hackle hares ear, 14-16 two bits in black and red

Dry Fly Fishing on the Gunnison River has been heating up its a good idea to have a solid variety of Caddis patterns, Green Drake and even PMD's on you so you can take advantage of the hatches throughout the next few weeks fully.

Between hatches definitely be prepared to fish a dropper rig or a Nymph Rig.

Sparkle Minnows / Sex Dungeons / black or brown Leech patterns have been producing a good streamer bite as well.

East Portal: 300 CFS

With roughly 8000 trout per mile you can expect some awesome fishing and incredible scenery. Nymphing scuds, stonefly, midge, and PMD patterns will make for some great fly fishing. 

Flies: Scuds / Soft Hackle Pheasant Tails /  Pats Rubber Legs  / Rainbow warrior / Walts Worms /  Black or Red two bit hookers sz 14 - 16

 

Blue Mesa Reservoir: 55ft below full 

Don't overlook fly fishing Blue Mesa. Leeches, chironomids, and worm patterns fished under a sensitive strike indicator can be a riot and produce some impressive trout and yellow perch.

Throwing Crayfish and Baitfish patterns around rocky structure can be a good way to target larger brown trout and rainbow trout.
