Post Father's Day Report - UPDATE 06/18/24

GREEN DRAKES ALONG WITH YELLOW SALLY'S HAVE JOINED THE CADDIS ON THE GUNNISON BELOW THE HIGHWAY 50 BRIDGE DOWN TO BLUE MESA RESERVOIR!  AS THE WATER CONTINUES TO DROP THE FISH WILL START PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THEM ON TOP!

We hope everyone had a spectacular Father's Day!! We are finally over the hump and the rivers are starting to calm down.  High temps in the high country have boosted the flows through the cool evenings and melted away a lot of the snow around the ten thousand foot mark.  There is still a grip of snow at the higher elevations but that will keep us in good water through the fall.

That being said, the smaller creeks are still running high and fast with little clarity.  Mary and I did very well with euro setups on Spring creek throwing tan leaches and San Juan worms.  Duracell's and other soft hackle bugs were popular as well. If you can ditch the indicator you will greatly increase your chances at fish holding tight to the edges.

The Gunnison is starting to come down as is the Taylor.  Increased flows from Taylor dam have kept the Gunnison high and tough to fish.  The Taylor is fishing well with dark green persigon's on the main section.  Mysis and emergers are taking some nice fish below the dam.  Wade the Taylor with extreme caution.  Concentrate your efforts on the edges and any soft pocket water you encounter.

Get your trips booked, folks are anticipating ahead for the lower flows.

Photo of a beautiful Rainbow from the mid-Taylor river.  The perdigon in it's lip is a great clue!
