Fly fishing on Blue Mesa

John came to Gunnison in 2011 for a Wildlife Biology degree at Western Colorado University and managed to complete it while getting the fishing in the valley sorted out. Having gotten hooked on fly fishing when he was seven, he fished all over Colorado while growing up. Several backcountry trips in Wyoming and getting a rod bent on some legendary New Zealand trout are the highlights of his fly fishing career.  A couple years of working for the CPW fisheries gives him a deep and relatively unique perspective on the fisheries in the Gunnison valley. Beginning guiding in 2017 he is an all around angler guiding trips on Blue Mesa Reservoir for kokanee salmon, lake trout and yellow perch as well as developing a unique still water fly fishery working the shorelines of the reservoir for brown and rainbow trout.
